I never thought that Chicken Coop Plans would be something I could get interested in. Well my uncle decided to take up chicken keeping as his latest hobby. He would get organics eggs to eat daily and his kids would enjoy feeding and looking after the chickens.

I didn’t realise that there would be many things to taken into consideration such as the materials, ventilation, positioning etc. Even that there were actual drawbacks to using some of the cheaper materials that would even cost a person more in the long term.

The fact that you needed to keep chickens really safe was a particular concern. Chickens actually need quite a lot of protection from predators such as snakes, foxes, possoms, racoons etc. You will also need to ensure that the chicken wire is securely fastened to the coup for their safety.

Another factors to take into consideration is which is the best bedding to use? A few people said that sawdust is soft and makes great bedding, and that sawdust is easier to clean and will absorb the odor longer. However, others said that the sawdust will get into their eyes and the chickens would scratch the sawdust out of the pen. However, uncle and the children chose straw for the bedding as they read that Straw helps the water drain to the bottom and it will give the chickens something to “scratch” through. It’s safe for them to eat.

By following an easy plan, you can build your own coops, no matter what size, for a fraction of the cost of buying a pre-packaged kit. You can often save as much as 50% of the cost of buying a chicken house by building it yourself. He needed a plan where he could use his own tools. Uncle Dave has a lot of tools in his garage so felt he could use these to build his coop.
